Red Rag zine launch party

Many moons ago – before life basically juggled the Jar Belles for a few months, depositing them in fresh lands with new jobs, partners, homes and other such minor details – we launched a zine. We called it the Jar Belles’ Red Rag, and chucked it on the Internet available for you to download here:

The zine is basically a selection of some of our favourite blog posts from the first quarter of the blog’s existence, lovingly edited and arranged on the page by KL and I to look dead sexy. It took us bloody ages as we decided to use InDesign (dumb), so feel free to take a moment to appreciate its heady aesthetic delights.

It’s also free, so spread it like head lice.

In the meantime, here are some pics from the party. It was kindly hosted by KL and AQ, the fancy dress theme was ‘Famous Feminists’, and there was a seriously awesome (and sometimes disturbing) mash-up of Maya Deren film footage and riot grrrl music playing. Basically, it was everything a girl could ever hope for.

The zine and some skittles. Taste the rainbow, patriarchy!
AQ making a superb Dalai Lama, and even better Mo-she-to and Consensual Sex on the Beach cocktails.
Frida Kahlo, Tony Benn and Batwoman getting on as expected.
CH, in a band shirt befitting our music reviewer, and DW.
ARG as suffragette, CB (no costume – which I never condone) and JB.
JM and KL (as the lovely Anaïs Nin), your faithful editors.
ARG’s costume rocking the house.

We’ll hit you up with vol. 2 at some point far in the future, when we’ve forgotten how annoying InDesign is – much like how some women have a second child after forgetting the first experience of childbirth. In the meantime, enjoy!
